Harayel

Angel of Saturn, invoked as a guardian against psychic and physical danger — a warder standing at the threshold between harm and home.

Origin

Harayel belongs to the 72 Names of the Shem HaMephorash, the array of angels drawn from three consecutive verses of Exodus 14 (19–21) by classical Kabbalistic method — each verse of seventy-two letters read forward, reversed, and interlinked to yield seventy-two three-letter Names, each completed with a divine suffix.

Harayel is counted among the Names governed by Saturn, the outermost and slowest of the classical planets, and by extension is associated with Binah, the sphere of form, boundary, and constraint on the Tree of Life. Where Jupiter's angels expand and Mars's angels strike, Saturn's angels hold the line — Harayel's office is the maintenance of a boundary that keeps danger on one side of it.

Appearance

Form

Depicted as a female angel, distinct among the Saturn-sphere Names for a martial rather than ascetic bearing.

Attributes

Golden wings and red hair, wearing a brown robe — earth tones befitting Saturn's association with matter, time, and limitation.

Instrument

A short sword tucked into a blue belt, carried rather than drawn — a readiness held in reserve, not brandished.

Sigil

Harayel

Drawn as a single continuous figure rather than assembled from Hebrew letters, in the manner used across the 72 Names — a private mark meant to be traced and held in mind rather than read.

Purpose

Harayel's stated purpose is protection against psychic or physical danger. In practice this places the Name alongside the other guardian Names of the 72 — invoked not to acquire or attract, but to interpose, to draw a line a threat cannot cross.

The sword stays in the belt. Saturn's protection is structural, not reactive — a ward already in place, rather than a blow struck after the fact.

This distinguishes Harayel from Names of confrontation: the working is closer to fortification than to combat, closer to the locked door than to the guard dog.
